I agree with kkardster, 99% chance that with this zoomed "window"
your taget bird walked out on you :P, and that is the moment
that pany will start focusing at the center.

(even when "the" bird comes back, the camera can only record 6 people faces, so dont even try putting a bird in it

As a test, lock onto a refrigerator in the kitchen and slowly move the camera - you'll see that the tracking point does not attempt to stay on the same spot on the refrigerator but rather moves within and to the edges of the refrigerator. If your background has similar coloring as you tracked subject, it may be difficult for the camera to stay on target.

Well, i tested this soon after i got mine, took 2x A4 paper same colour,
one 6 feet away, second lined up 12 feet away, and locked.
I was curious if the tracking should go for the colour/ CONTRAST
or if it could "see" the different dept, and thát would be awesome

guess what... it stayed at the edges of the first A4, even inhouse-low light!
NOT jumping of the cliff, to page 2 .....YEAHHH... love this cam

About the EV i've set mine to -1/3, and like it sofar.
i agree with setting the cam to 23 zone..
i think that will (mostly) solve the problem.

I also agree with Hans Gruber, test the 200 or even 300,
it didnt had a "big impact" on my tests
This is just my RAW avatar....
