Do we own medium format cameras?

The D800 review is out and in the "Final Word" the following appears,
Of course, the game changer is that you now have 36MP at your disposal, a resolution that was, until the D800 announcement, the sole province of very expensive medium format cameras/backs. The D800 does indeed offer a level of fine detail that ranks it among the best performers we've subjected to our studio testing.
It's a good resolution sure, up with the best, but "sole province of...medium format" ?
I don't see it. The image is bigger than the others but it's also softer, and the review does state they feel they pushed it to its limit (lens etc). Overall it's a slightly better resolution than those mirrorless cameras I've selected -- well the Sony and Olympus anyway, Samsung is there for comparison. I can read "ALESSANDRIA" on the Nikon, struggle for Sony, and not at all on the last two.
(actually I own a C3 )
