EX1 DOF question

Thanks for that. I guess what I need to do is pick up a used SLR and maybe put to use some of my old Pentax lenses. I'd really like my portraits to pop and I can't seem to get that with the EX1. I hear what you say about framing the subject but that takes an eye for composition I'm just not blessed with.
