FB is doing resizing and compressing on the fly. You might get better by finding out what is the size displayed in the lightbox and then resizing the photo on your computer before you upload.

FB is not for final delivery or for examination of image quality to say clients. It is for sharing snapshots for friends and family or for sharing good stuff amongst birds of a feather "club" of photographers who want a photo social circle to encourage each other on their composition, content and other efforts, not necessarily to appreciate or critique image quality.
