Is there a way to hunt down lost/stolen lenses?

I have reported it to police along with serial numbers etc. Aside from monitoring ebay, craigslist, and the likes I am at a lost as to how one tracks down these items.

Does Nikon USA maintain a database of such items? Couldn't find a link to such a webpage.

Input would be appreciated.
