Pet portrait: Tips please

I like the shadow - it looks like a panther.

I don't like much how the shadow look below the cat, because the background is not straight, and for me the shot would be better with more DOF - with this kind of background, there is no need no need to blur it, and that would let you have all your subject sharp.
