Options to replace a slow-focusing 50/1.4G

I'm frequently frustrated by the slow focusing performance of the 50/1.4G. I recently upgraded to a new body but focusing speed did not improve. What are my best alternatives? 24-70 loses two stops I'd prefer to keep. 85/1.4G is a lot of money. What about 85/1.8G? 105/2DC? A different 50mm?
