D7000 like a plastic toy...

So I bought the D7000 to use in the interim while waiting for my D800. I foolishly sold the D700 a few months ago thinking I'd get the D800 on time. I have to say, I'm not sure I can downgrade from the D7000 to D700. I took for granted how good and how sturdy the FX bodies feel. I definitely want to try it, but I'm tempted to leave it in the box and return to Amazon.

Has anyone else had the same problem? I guess most people who go to FX, stay there. But I know many people use the D7000 for a backup, but I'm not sure how. I would think you'd have to get the battery grip for it to feel half decent.
