E PM 1 video button designated as AEL but what to do now

I know I could designated the function to turn off the monitor to the red video button but I chose this button for the AEL function. Is there any way to still shut off the monitor? I take lots of photos when I'm out walking in a new interesting location and with the camera on the monitor stays on as well and even though I set the dimming to 8 seconds the low intensity display still drains the battery. How do you deal with this problem. I don't think constant on/off camera operation is very healthy to the longevity of the camera.Thanks.
