The D800 pic is strongly blurred. You said it was shot from a tripod and you used 1/8 sec. From another post with examples it showed that the mirror causes a huge vibration when used below 1/80 sec. Looks to me as that's your problem here. Use the mirror lock up (Mup on the D300) function.

Philip, thanks very much for the info. Didn't realize that the vibration was so much that mirror lockup was needed below 1/80. Good to know.
