Manual mode is one thing and metering is another , even though they are related. Manual mode means that you are setting shutter spead , aperture plus Iso as you read what your meter is saying but metering is the way your camera makes an analysis of the light levels in what you see in the viewfinder .

I have never been able to take a decent pic of the moon with matrix metering . I change metering to spot and viola, the moon inmediately apears on my lcd.
