Pentax K-01 at the Vancouver Marathon

A new entry at my blog covering this morning's Vancouver Marathon:

Nobody's going to call the K-01 a sports camera, but my shots certainly have more drama than what our main local newspaper chose to publish on its website. Framing and context is everything, especially if you're not using a pro DSLR.

My plan to get a nice long telephoto of the two front-runners with my manual 200mm on a tripod was foiled by the large group of support cyclists clustered around the runners. I had neither the mobility nor the high-speed frame advance to react to this unforeseen development. My shot of the women's winner is another relative miss. That one was handheld with the 70mm and my anticipated focus point was just a little off as she advanced towards me, even with focus-peaking and an aperture of f5.0. Practice makes perfect, but I only had one shot. Luckily my editor is myself and I was working for free.
