Inconsistency with Nikon warranty cards

Over the past two months I switched to Nikon and bought a couple of bodies and several lenses, all from one of the large reputable mail order retailers. All of the gear appeared brand new and opened to me. I found that sometimes the box had a Nikon warrant card and sometimes it didn't, and I can't figure out the rhyme or reason for it. For example the 50mm 1.4G had a card but the 14-24 2.8G did not. Out of 10 bodies and lenses bought, 6 had warranty cards and 4 didn't. Has anyone else seen this? Shouldn't I get a warranty card for every single piece? With Canon, every body and lens came with a card.
