D800 autofocus problem

I test and debug software during normal working hours so I would like to add my 'Guess' as to why the focus problem has not generated a lot of fire (outwardly , ha ha) at Nikon. Since in all probability the same routine is used to determine when a subject is in focus and only a few (all on the left side) are problematic this suggest that a physical manufacturing error has taken place, not a firmware mistake. And, as I mentioned earlier, this could be a very costly (money and reputation) fix. I think that Nikon wants as many owners to just put up with the problem.
