I don't expect to see his kind of pictures as examples, but would like to see some zoomed in shots of birds that show detail. I have the SX40 and love it, but I would also buy the P510 for the reach if all else were equal.

Some of my better bird pictures have came from the SX40 over my DSLRs too. So the P510 also seems like a good bet to me. I'll wait to see real world results first, of course.
