Hi!

No problem getting a D800(E) and only one 'cheap' lens.....depending on what you want to do.

Street photography?
Macro work?
Family pics?

I can see doing all these and more, with just a single lens...

But, this being a lens forum (with the expected occasional "gear-head"), no surprise that some have raised questions!

However, if your main purpose is something like bird photography, then one would be better off with a D300s and a high quality tele lens.

FWIW, 5 years ago I bought a D2H (around $2800) and a 200-400VR for $5000.

Sold the 200-400VR this year for $5200.

I've advertised the D2h for $450....no takers yet...
