Not entirely true. The spectral response for the three layers in Foveon is not RGB, and might not be possible to convert entirely. In that case you cannot use photographic filters to get what you want. You then need to use some graphical arts trick. Like marking an area and handle it specifically.

Bit different for SPP because it does its own thing.

I have very little experience with SPP. But the little I have used it I was amazed at it doing its own thing. I got a surprise for every image.
