Nikkor 40mm F2.8 macro lens experiences ?

These lenses are totally unsuitable for insect macro because the short focal length forces one to be far too close to the subjects which will likely have flown away, bitten you or stung you.

In addition, the lack of working space can make it difficult to illuminate the creatures properly.

Remember, our cameras have plenty of megapixels, so you can always crop the photos, people tend to forget that once you take the photo with the camera, is not set in stone, you can crop easily.
