Joy is just am amateur!!! I am still braching out from trying to take great shots of the kids to other areas of photography... so you guys know much more about this than I..

With all due respect, I'm not sure I would agree with your statement.

While we all would rather have a constant aperture as opposed to a variable aperture, many tests seem to indicate the earlier lens is a tad sharper, I realize this is a very subjective opinion and only Joy07 would know what he/she likes.

The variable aperture also has a 77mm filter thread as opposed to an 82mm thread found on the newer version. The 77mm is much more common than the 82mm thread.

Just my thoughts.......
