That is exactly my take. The difference between quality of blur and quantity of blur can seem too subtle for me to grasp. Maybe, because, in one lens the quality of blur may be fairly consistent from f stop to f stop. It is easier for me to grasp the difference when I compare lenses. The Sigma 85 1.4, for example, seems to do very nicely in posted images while the Nikon 50 1.8 has a distinctive bokeh I do not much like. So, between lenses the differences can be obvious. As one can identify the aroma of a favorite wine, I can spot the distinctive bokeh of my Tamron 70-300 vc when I see images posted on line. Again, I am just exploring my ideas. Any feedback is welcome.
