Pentax 3rd party lens support - The elephant in the room

One of the biggest dilemas facing Pentax has to be the issue of diminishing third party lens support. Tamron, Tokina and now even Sigma seems to be uncertain.

With the recent Pentax lens price increases and the somewhat limited lens choices of its own lineup compared to the competition, Pentax/Ricoh will need to address this and sooner rather than later.

The replacement for the K5 cannot be too far away. With Ricoh's increased marketing power the new DSLR should hopefully have a decent marketing campaign behind it. If the new camera improves on the existing K5 with big improvements in AF performance along with faster framerates, better stabilisation and video specs then it could become a viable option for some pro shooters albiet for the existing state of glass options.

Lets hope that Pentax/Ricoh are actively addressing this as there is no doubt without a wider availibility of lenses Pentax is going to remain at a serious disadvantage in the DSLR marketplace.
