USB advertised speeds are very misleading. They two-way speeds, meaning you only get half the advertised speed in actual file transfers.
So USB 2.0 is actually capable of 240Mbps, which is about 23MB/s. USB 3.0 is capable to copy files at 2.5Gbps, meaning about 230MB/s.
Firewire 400 is 400 Mbps in each direction and is capable of supporting file tranfers at about 38 MB/s.
