Are the focal lengths that Nikon puts on Nikkor DX lenses real, or "effective"?

All lenses are marked with the actual focal length, including compacts

I don't think that this has been mentioned by anybody else.

All camera lenses have the actual focal length marked on the front of the lens. This includes compact cameras.

Look at this page from the Nikon P7100 review on this site:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikonp7100
The actual focal length is marked on the bottom of the lens: 6.0-42.6mm.

Also Canon S100: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons100/ Focal length 5.2-26.0mm.

The only exceptions to this that I know of are one or two waterproof cameras which don't show any focal length. I don't personally know of any camera which has the "effective" focal length marked on the front of the lens.
