Do all Canon 50mm/60mm "float" into focus and not snap?
May 3, 2012

I have a Canon 50mm 1.4 lens which I bought back in 2004 when I got my 20D. I only used it a short while as I got the 35mm 1.4L to use as my everyday lens. So it's sat for probably 8 years unused. When I got my 5D MIII I was happy to be able to use the 50mm again, but I am finding it doesn't snap into focus which is what I am used to, it kind of "floats" into focus somewhat at a leisurely pace. Do you think because it sat this long it needs adjusting/lubricating or is this lens known for that? I have tried it on my 5D MIII and 20D and it's the same on both. I checked info on this and the 60mm macro and both have people that say these are slow to focus. Is that true? If so, what lens in this range with superior quality is faster? I don't want a heavy zoom, Thanks
