New NEX5n: Depth of Field and Focus Question

I checked the DOF tool using the specs of the last photo and at 6 feet (2m) the near limit is 2.99 ft and the far limit infinity. Looking at the tree in the distance and other objects they are soft. I guess the quality of this lens is the factor.
