30mm or 50mm for portraits / social shots?

I use the NEX 5 with the 50F1.8 mainly for family gathering. The 50mm is great for single person portraits but the focal length is too tight for shots with more than 1 subject. For your type of photography (which sounds a lot like mine), I think the 30mm is a better choice. The bokeh is not much of a concern since you'll have to shoot at or higher than F2.8 in order to get all the subjects in focus anyways.
