I made it out of a 40.5mm to 43mm conversion ring, and a 43mm ND8. I have an ND64 as well, for very long time exposures (up to 60 seconds).

I drilled two holes through the 40mm threads of the conversion ring to allow the elastic cord to go through, and then tied off each end of the elastic and covered the knot with heat-shrink plastic so that the knot would not fray or slip.

You need to get the elastic cord not too tight, as it might affect the LX5 zoom. I found that mine was correct at the first attempt. The lens motions is actually quite strong.

It also works with a polarizer
