Sunlight vs studio light
May 2, 2012

I took shots of an acrylic painting with studio strobes, with tungsten light and in the sun. I used 18%grey card when I shot with the tungsten light. The flash and sun light I used the camera setting according to the light source. Surprisingly, the shot that was taken under sun light gave the closest color to the painting. The flash light shot had a little bit magenta tint on it. The flash light test gave a lot better result than the tungsten light color wise.

I suppose there are many other things that can effect the final result such as the flash brand and quality, environment and the lighting settings. But in my case, the sun light was the best in taking a photo of an acrylic painting.

What do others think whether sun has a better color spectrum than studio flash?
