for some time I used to own the HSM-predescessor-model of the actual Sigma and I liked the obtained results a lot. But I traded the Sigma in for getting the Sony because I found the lack of both focus limiter and focus stop buttons important for speeding up focus aquisition under critical conditions - what means sports. The HSM was fast but sometimes searching for focus in a range where the subject wasn't. And this needed time. Even manually prefocussing into the range of later focus aquisition didn't change this. Anyhow, if this specific aspect is not relevant to you it's a chance for some significant economy.
