What is it about Melvins that make them Melvins?

Photoshop uses the ACR plug-in to import RAW files, including CR2's. Every time Adobe updates Photoshop, they change the plug-in so it will not work with older versions of the program, to force people to upgrade.

And why do they update the plug-in? Because Canon/Nikon/Blank changed their raw formats again, requiring Adobe to spend some effort adding the support. You think they should do that for free, forever? Yes, Canon gives away DPP for free - it would be really hard for them to justify charging for their own RAW reader.

You've implied Adobe merely change the plug-in to make people upgrade. But few software makers will update EOL versions forever, never mind for new model support.

Not sure why your resentment is to Adobe, who proposes a consistent RAW format, rather than the OEMs who keep coming up with new ones.
