no , you did not make a mistake. i had a 430 ex ii and i loved it. Got a great deal on a 580 ex II so I returned it, and traded up. But it has lots of power and you can use it wirelessly. you will really like it. $250 is a decent price, though canon has refurbished ones for $192 last week. I got my 580 ex ii refurbished for $320 plus $20 tax.
