For me the main advantage of better high ISO performance as well as fast lenses is that they will allow for higher shutter speeds in a given situation, VR is not relevant in this case, and by the same token, high ISO and fast aperture aren't required if I'm shooting in a low light situation where I don't need high shutter speed, there are other tools for that.
