Crazy to sell 24-70 for 24-120 with D800?

OK - so I currently have the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 (as well as a 50 f/1.4G, 105 f/2.8 Micro and the infrequently used 70-300). I intend to purchase a wide angle prime for landscapes (primarily) which would leave the 24-70 being used for family snaps, general travel and the like.
I am in line for a D800 and have been toying with the idea of replacing the 24-70 with the 24-120 VR f/4. Why? Well, the VR is tempting and the extra reach for casual shots might be useful. It's also a bit smaller and lighter. Does anyone have any real world experience with this combination? I've seen the Kennedy Space Centre shots and read some technical reviews but I value info from people who use it regularly.
