I have a NEC PA241W and it is the same: the anti-glare coating looks coarse. But this might not be what is causing the lack of sharpness.
The digits of the text are not well defined. there is something like artifacts that afect the contour of the figures and individual digits.
This might be due to not using DVI, as Jim said. But you also might be able to improve the appearance of type by adjusting ClearType in 'Control Panel/Appearance and Personalization/Fonts/Adjust ClearType text"
Run through this adjustment as the last step, after making any changes in your video subsystem. (But probably before calibration, though.)
