You believe wrong. By washing out the photo like that it masks a lot of flaws. Most noise shows up in darker areas (but not too dark) of the image. Too dark in shadow areas hides noise and too bright a photo with lack of contrast, as in your photos, does the same. Back off on the exposure (brightness) next time. TrojMacReady's example is much better.

OK then. Not too dark not too bright. Since 4 stops shadow lifting is too much for checking shadow noise then how about only 2 stops? Again with minimal processing. Just demosaicing, raw color and gamma 2.2. D3200 left, NEX 7 right (DPR iso 100 studio shots)...
