Hi,
I got a repair quote of $500 for replacing the shutter.
I wouldn't bother having it fixed. I think you're on the right track by looking at another body.
Now, I'm looking for a replacement. I could get a used 13,000-clicks D200 for around $420, or I could spend the full $1400 (DK prices...) for a new D7000. But...: is the latest generation enough of an upgrade sensor and speed wise to justify a threefold higher price?
D200's are a steal these days. I bought mine on eBay about 1.5 years ago for $450. It is the best DSLR I've ever used. (D1/D2h/D100 are the others)
D7000 looks like it's better than the D200 in many respects.
I think it would be a fine replacement.
Also, a used D300 would be nice. Those are selling for $800-ish.
Also, Nikon's bound to release a D400 or D600 soon; might wanna wait and see what those are like.
