Well said. I'm sure that the vast majority of these AF "problems" are user error, or unrealistic expectations.

Side AF points are always worse than the center. And it's no great surprise that the little box in the viewfinder doesn't correspond directly to the actual line which the camera uses to focus.

This is especially problematic with wider lenses, because that little box suddenly contains a lot of stuff and often lacks the contrast needed to focus properly.

It's something you have to live to work around. Even the d800 can't be perfect. If you think that you can use the upper most corner point at 24mm wide open and 1.4 and not be picky about your target, you might want to think about your expectations.
