I have both an SX40 and an S100.

When using the S100, I do sometimes miss the zoom, especially when taking photos of birds, animals, flowers, etc. It's also handy for candid shots of people. I find the extra zoom to be less useful for landscapes but still nice to have on occasion.

However, as you noted, the S100 has the obvious advantage of portability.

In my experience, both cameras produce excellent photos, as amply demonstrated by the many posts on this board.

Can anyone with a S100 say if they fell constrained by the 'decreased' zooming after using a Superzoom ? Do you get used to it ?

Other than that, the S100 sounds like a great camera, and much kinder on the neck/shoulders while walking 10-15 miles a day..
