Looking at the wrong trend, missing paradigm shift?

If you look at what has happened with DX sensors in the past:
D300s, D90, D5000 same sensor; D3000 slightly inferior sensor

So that was then

D7000, D5100 same sensor; D3100 slightly inferior sensor (just below the level of the D90)

And this is sort of now, but...

D7000 - Nikon introduced higher end sensor than in its flagship DX body
D3200 - Nikon introduced higher end sensor at the bottom of the DX line

Those two things buck the trend upon at least your first observation is based, namely, higher end sensor comes out first at the top of the line, then filters down, with a lower end sensor at the entry level. NONE of that is true now. We're not looking at what Nikon used to do, and therefore can't make any predictions based on the past. Welcome to the paradigm shift.
