Questions about live view on the Canon 5D Mark 3

I've never used live view on a DSLR before, but how does it compare to a mirrorless camera like the Panasonic GH2? Is it faster or slower? In terms of auto focusing accuracy, is using live view any worse compared to using the phase detection auto focus?
