If you need a ball head, you might look at Induro. Depending on the size of lens, the Induro BH0 or BH1 might work out. I have a BH1 on my Sunpak tripod. I bought the Induros with a screw clamp to hold an ARCA-Swiss style plate.
You could try mounting just an ARCA-Swiss style screw clamp directly to the monopod, then use an RRS L-bracket (pricey!) on the camera. That would give you either portrait or landscape without a ball head.
