DX lens used in FF mode on D800
Apr 25, 2012

I don't know if this has been posted before, but when a DX lens is used on the D800, the camera automatically defaults to DX mode, meaning I do not get to use all the 36 mn pixels. (I don't have this issue with the D700). The Nikon brochure says that "when a DX lens is used, DX format is automatically selected." Can I select otherwise?

I do have a few good DX lenses that are usable (certain focal lengths) on FX cameras, for eg, 18mm to 24mm on the Nikon 12-24 DX. I would like to be able to use such DX lenses on the D800, rather than to buy new FX lenses covering similar FLs.

For those who have the D800, is it possible to override the default setting such that I can use a DX lens as though it is a full frame lens?

Thank you.
