OK. Let's get constructive. Firstly, HDR is not an art form. It is a digital processing technique for making well exposed images from a number of separate and different exposures in situations where accurate exposure is difficulty. It is really a mechanism used to overcome weaknesses in the camera system. Neither film nor digital sensor can approach the ability of the human eye to process information, and HDR gives us the ability to get closer to what we see.

Stuart, you are only understanding where HDR originally came from, and you seem to be totally unaware of how it has evolved and progressed into a art form all of it's own. You need to step back and see the whole evolution of the art of HDR photography. Today, the best HDR artwork is nothing like the simple use of HDR techniques that many photographers used a few years ago, just for the purpose of illuminating areas of their photograph that might have been in the shadows.

Like it or not, HDR is now a whole new art-form all of it's own.
