Lens not attached properly

I need some help here. I just bought a lens with Canon FD mount and got an adapter to mount it onto my G3. Whenever I switch on the camera I get the message that the lens isn't attached properly, but I don't know where I'm going wrong. "Shooting without lens" is switched on, but it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?
