SD1 vs SD15
Apr 23, 2012

My biggest issue with the SD1 here in Hawaii is the rendition of shadow areas in the foliage. Here is a comparison of the SD15 and the SD1. Same time, same lens, same relative ISO/shutter/aperture combinations with the SD1 at ISO200/800th and the SD15 at ISO100/400th. Both AWB. SD15 was processed with Auto SPP. SD1 was custom with highlights brought down to -2 and shadows brought up to +2. First with fill light at .3 and second with fill light at .6.

I want to get some feedback on either other processing alternatives and on using fill light this high on such a regular basis. The tree line on the right is not in silhouette as it was taken at 11am. The rendition of the grass by the SD1 is too cool and somewhat unappealing. By the SD15, a little on the warm side but more appealing - not as much over as the SD14 does with the same shot.

SD1 fill .3:

SD1 fill .6:

Thanks
