Please help me with your inspiration / expertise.

Hello all:

My son who is 8 and in second grade, was selected by his true love (or he says) to escort her at the "april flower" pageant at his school. The girl´s mom wants me to
take studio pictures of them in formal attire. Of course I will love to comply.

The problem is that I don´t seem to find a way to pose them without making them look like a miniature wedding is taking place.

Any advise or pointers on how to pose them together without the "couple" look? I want someting neither of them find embarrasing to show in the future,
