I treasure my Ansel Adams box cameras photos. I treasure knowing that Tiger Woods shoots with the same $19.99 drivers that I do. I'm pleased that all of my professional photographer friends work with the same model point and shoot I use.

The argument that it's not the tool it's the artist is a specious argument that's been around forever. It may have first been represented when Lisarius Idiotus argued, "IRON gladiums do not make better solders, Mark Antony." (It is said that Antony gutted Idiotus on the spot with ... his iron gladius.)

Talented artists and craftsmen know that the best tools help them produce the best results. Ansel used some of the best equipment available to him at the time. He didn't buy the "hardware doesn't matter" argument; neither should we.
