Prime v Zoom

I have a Nikon 70-200 vr1 zoom lens. Would it be worth while buying the new 85 mm 1.8g prime lens? Would the prime lens be any better than my zoom. I have a d700 and have a D800 on order. The lens is to be used as a portrait lens as expected.The new 85 mm lens sounds good but would I notice any difference
