Without contacting the original creator of the picture there simply is no way to be 100% sure, because digital media can be altered without leaving as much as a footprint if you know what you're doing.

Keep in mind that most digital media formats don't keep track of all the changes performed. And the few that do (like photoshop's PSD files) are simply too big to post on websites at best and at worst they allow others to claim the pictures as their own.

I do have to say that it would be nice to have such features if you want to learn how the final result was achieved.
