24-70, 14-14 or something else for photojournalism

I currently own the Nikon 24-120mm f/4 VR II and while it's a sharp lens and performs well, I've noticed recently that for photojournalism the f/4 just doesn't cut it (I've also been shooting a lot of concerts lately and it's even worse for those). Originally when I bought this lens I was dead-set on buying the 24-70mm f/2.8 but I just couldn't justify the cash for it at the time. Now I'm thinking about selling my 24-120mm in a few months and using the money I get from the sale towards a faster lens. I currently have the 60mm f/2.8 AF-S and 70-200mm f/2.8 VR as my other two lenses. I feel like the 24-70mm will go nicely with my 70-200mm but there's a few other lenses that just have more "allure" than that lens. I've been dreaming of the 14-24mm for a while now and would love it but I just don't know if I'll get the amount of use out of the 24-70mm. I've also been looking at some primes and I could probably get the 35mm 1.4G and then later on throw in a 50mm 1.8G or 1.4G (the 1.8G seems sharper to me). Would I regret getting that instead of the zoom? Or would a range of 35mm, 50mm and my 60mm be enough for most work? With that set-up I'd certainly be gaining light over the 24-70mm.
